Curriculum
Through a blend of technical coursework in material science, engineering, policies and business, you’ll receive advanced professional training in Oregon State University’s PSM in Wood Innovation for Sustainability program. The online curriculum — developed and offered by OSU’s Department of Wood Science and Engineering — provides a background in strategic planning, project management and sustainable business practices, and it’s ideal for those who are not looking for a research-based master’s program.
Degree requirements
A total of 45 quarter credits are required to graduate with your PSM in Wood Innovation for Sustainability. Degree requirements and curriculum information will soon be available on Oregon State's academic catalog.
Specialization options
Choose one of the two following specialization options that offer the opportunity to deepen your skills and knowledge in an area of interest.
Mass timber option
Enhance your expertise in sustainable construction via the option in mass timber — an innovative, prefabricated wood material transforming the industry. Gain skills in mass timber materials, digital design and construction techniques while exploring sustainability and innovation in modern architecture.
Timber circular economy option
Gain advanced knowledge of sustainability and resource efficiency within the wood products industry in the timber circular economy option. Study environmental assessment, manufacturing optimization and sustainability policy development as you learn to reduce waste and improve lifecycle management.

Additional program features
Internship
The program includes an intensive internship experience that will engage you in real work situations involving technical problems, teamwork, communication skills and decision-making. You can complete the internship with an organization of your choice, and it will enable you to translate the knowledge into practical impact.
Start working toward a master’s degree with a certificate
Before deciding to enroll in the wood innovation for sustainability PSM online program, you can first gain related skills and earn an in-demand credential through Oregon State graduate certificates in mass timber and timber circular economy online. The certificate credits you earn can be applied directly toward the PSM program — putting you well on your way toward earning a master’s degree.
If you plan to use certificate credits toward a master’s degree, you should discuss transfer credit policies with your graduate program coordinator in advance.
